KUIPERS, Chester W. “Chet”, 76, of Main St., Coventry, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in Port Charlotte, FL. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Nancy M. (Tatro) Kuipers.
Born in Taunton, MA, he was the son of the late Chester and Etta (Mason) Kuipers.
Chet was employed with MetLife for 22 years before his retirement in 1997. He was a well-known member of the community and was involved in many community organizations including Pawtuxet Valley Rotary Club where he served as Club President and was awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award. Chet was also a member of the East Greenwich Veteran Fireman’s Club and past member of the Camp E-Hun-Tee Advisory Board, Coventry 250thAnniversary Committee and member of the Steering Committee for the 1984 National Student Council Convention as well as a coach in the Coventry Basketball Association. He also spent many years playing the role of Santa Claus for the Town of Coventry Christmas Tree Lighting.
Chet was a wonderful husband and father and his granddaughters, Ashley and Bailey, were very precious to him and the sunshine of his life. He loved spending time at his condo in Port Charlotte, FL where he made many new friends and enjoyed time with his friends from RI who traveled there as well. Friends and family were very special to him and he always looked forward to spending time with others and especially looked forward to connecting with his classmates at class reunions over the years. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, James C. Kuipers and his wife Danielle of Coventry and two grandchildren, Ashley and Bailey Kuipers.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, with a Funeral Service at 12:00 pm in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry. Burial will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chet’s name to the Coventry High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund would be appreciated.
