Welcome to the memorial page for

MARIE M. (Morris) DICK

November 17, 2017

DICK, Marie M. (Morris), 92, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Scalabrini Villa.  She was the wife of nearly 60 years to the late Frederick E. Dick (Air Force Captain, WWII).

Born in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of the late John E. and Elizabeth (Matthews) Morris, she had lived in Barrington for 51 years, before moving to Rehoboth, MA to live with her son and his family. She had been a resident at Scalabrini Villa in North Kingstown for the past 4 1/2 years.

Marie graduated in 1943 from the Vesper George School of Art with a degree in Fashion Design.  She worked as an artist in NYC in Macy’s advertising dept., and later for I. Miller Shoes as a designer until her marriage in 1945.

She was a member of the Republican Women of Barrington, also active for many years in NSDAR and was a former regent of the Bristol Chapter.  Marie enjoyed custom sewing and designing, both contemporary fashion and historical costumes for herself, family and friends.  She was a popular speaker on historical fashion, First Ladies, and important women in American History.  Her lectures often included her own handmade costumes which would be modeled by members of the organization she was speaking to.

She is survived by her children, Frederick E. Dick, Jr. of Rehoboth, MA and Maryanne Sheryka of Warwick; 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson and a great-granddaughter.  She was the mother of the late Lt. Commander Suzanne Dick and sister of the late John E. Morris, Jr.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Scalabrini Villa, especially the Memory Care Unit, for their excellent and compassionate care throughout these past several years.

Committal Prayers will be held Wednesday at 12:30 pm in the Chapel at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.  Relatives and friends may gather in front of the Administration Buildings at 12:15 pm and then we will proceed to the chapel.
