ROGER J. SALVAS

SALVAS, ROGER J., 95, of Coventry, passed away January 17, 2018 at Kent Hospital. Born in Coventry he was a son of the late Albert and Louise (Whitman) Salvas. Roger was the devoted husband of Frances (Kowal) Salvas for 71 years.

 

Roger served in the US Navy on a Destroyer during WWII and received several medals. Roger worked for Spiedel and Bostitch for several years. He was very active with the Boy Scouts accompanying them to England and then becoming Assistant District Commissioner. Roger was a member of the former Gibson Council Knight of Columbus. He was a past president of the Holy Name Society. Roger and Fran were one of the original members of Saints John & Paul Church. He sang in the Church choir for over 50 years, and also sang many years with the Pawtuxet Valley Community Chorus. Roger was an avid bowler & golfer achieving a Hole in One!

 

He was the father of Raymond (and the late Sharon) Salvas, Elaine (Edward) Blais and Peter (Jean) Salvas. Grandfather of 7; great-grandfather of 11; great-great-grandfather of 3. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Allen, Lionel and Raymond Salvas, Enid Rainone and Jean Marzilli.

 

His funeral will be Tuesday at 9 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saints John & Paul Church, 341 So. Main St., Coventry, RI 02816. Interment with military honors in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours are Monday evening 4 – 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to RI Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave., Providence, RI 02907 (  www.rifoodbank.org ) or Saints John & Paul Church will be appreciated.
