ROY A. BENSON

BENSON, Roy A., 78, of Pulaski St., a cartographer for 38 years with the former Defense Mapping Agency in West Warwick before retiring in 1987, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Kent Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Carol J. Benson and the late Elaine T. (Richer) Benson.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Walter and Arlene (Higgenbothum) Benson, he was the twin of the late Shirley M. Benson and brother of the late Donald W. Benson and Robert C. Benson.

Roy served in the Air Force weather service and was a Korean War veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Walter Benson and Ronald Benson, both of Maine; a daughter, LeAnne Benson of Wollaston, MA; a step-daughter, Beverly Baron of Coventry; two grandchildren, Krista A. Benson and Robert Baron, his niece Kimberly Benson, two great nieces, Kristy Tomi Fredericks and Cara Markie Taul and two great nephews, Thomas Parker Fredericks and Bubba Benson.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in the R. A. IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte. 117), Coventry, with a Funeral Service to follow at 1:30 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to either The Humane Society of the United States, Dept. HACDQ 100904001, 2100 L Street NW, Washington, DC 20037 or the Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410 would be appreciated
