DOWLING III, RICHARD J. 86, of Richardson Rd., Coventry, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. He was the husband of Adrienne R. (Conley) Dowling. They were happily married for 59 years. Born in Cranston, RI, he was the son of the late Dr. Richard J. Dowling II and Florence M. (O’Hare) Dowling.
Rich attended LaSalle Academy and graduated from Hope High School in 1956 where he played football. He served in the United States Air Force. After an honorable discharge, Rich went on to employment as a Structural Draftsman. Rich was a dedicated parishioner of Saints John & Paul Church.
Over the years, Rich was a resident of Providence, East Providence, Pueblo Colorado, and Atlanta Georgia but his favorite place was “The Camp” at Quidnick Reservoir where he maintained a residence since 1946. Rich enjoyed the natural beauty of his surroundings on Quidnick Reservoir, fishing, following the New England professional sports teams, but mostly Rich loved to spend time with his family.
Besides his wife, Richard is survived by a son, Richard J. Dowling IV and his wife Katherine A. Dowling of Coventry and grandchildren Owen R. Dowling, Ryan J. Dowling and Caitlin M. Dowling. He was the brother of the late Ann Wynne. He also leaves a nephew Steven Wynne and a niece Deb Wynne.
A visiting hour will be held on Monday morning, April 8, 2024 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd.,(95/exit 18/Rte.3) in Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saints John & Paul Church, military honors to follow. Inurnment at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Boy Scouts Troop 11 Coventry, 340 Wakefield St., West Warwick, RI 02893 would be appreciated. iannottifh.com
