CHRISTINE PIMENTAL Obituary

PIMENTAL, Christine C. (Monahan), 70, of Knotty Oak Rd., passed away at home supported in the hands of her loving family on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.  She was the beloved wife of 47 years to Francis J. “Frank” Pimental.

Born in South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Doris (St. Jean) Monahan.

Christine was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and taught at Ponaganset High School for 3 years.  She then left the workforce to  spend the formative years of her children with them at home.  During this time she returned to school and earned her nursing degree.  She worked for 29 years at Kent County Memorial Hospital.  27 of those years were spent working with babies in the nursery. She engaged her love for animals and nature by volunteering for 13 years as a docent at the Roger Williams Park Zoo.

Christine’s favorite hobby was sewing.   Much of her young children’s clothing were made by her, and she spent countless hours sewing gifts for friends and relative’s children. Her next favorite hobby was cooking.  She was a seat of the pants style cook, seasoning as she went along and rarely following a recipe, but turning out great tasting foods loved by all.

Diagnosed with cancer in 2009, Christine maintained a positive attitude. She was able to enjoy time traveling. Among her trips were visits to Alaska, the Grand Canyon, the British Isles, a river cruise in France, and numerous visits to Disney World and Williamsburg with family and friends.  Her favorite trip was a weeks in Paris where close friends arranged a nonstop tour of all the highlights of the city.  During some of these travels she was unable to walk distances and had to be pushed in a wheelchair, but her spirits remained high and she kept plugging along. Her stamina was maintained by attending water aerobics where she made many new friends.

Besides her husband, she leaves her children, Evan F. Pimental and his wife Veneza of Peabody, MA and Shanan C. Williams and her former husband Gregory of Nashua, NH; three brothers, Wallace Monahan Jr. of Derry, NH, Carey Monahan of West Warwick and David Gravino of West Warwick and three grandchildren, Colin and Hadley Williams and Reid Pimental.

At Christine’s request, her Funeral Services and Burial will be private. A celebration of life is being planned for early September.  Those wishing to honor Christine are encouraged to donate in her name to her favorite charities – National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Planned Parenthood, and the Roger Williams Park Zoo.
