DERECK JAY FISH

November 9, 1973 ~ September 20, 2019 (age 45)

FISH, Dereck Jay, 45, of Harkney Hill Rd., passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2019 with his loyal dog Jaiden.  Born in Warwick, he was the beloved son of Barbara M. Flagg of North Kingstown and Lloyd S. Fish and his fiancé Lorie Vieira of Coventry.

Dereck was mechanically skilled, self-motivated, out of the box thinker.  He was a free spirited loving, caring son, brother, friend and he adored his two nephews.  Dereck will be missed by us all.  The world was a better place with Dereck in it!

Bicycles were his passion; riding, racing, building and repairing, he loved it all!  Dereck graduated from Coventry High School and had extensive schooling in the sport of bicycling including the Barnett Bicycle Institute, SRAM Technical University, Bill Woodul Race Mechanic Clinic and the FOX Factory Suspension Clinic.  He also enjoyed repairing small engines, woodworking and welding.

During his working career, Dereck worked at Stanley Bostitch doing machine maintenance, Pedal Power and Over the Edge Sports and Casters as a bike mechanic, Ellsworth Handcrafted Bicycles where he manufactured aluminum bicycle frames, he was a Technical Representative in the Bicycle Division at SHIMANO American, a cabinet refinisher and carpenters helper at Restoration Specialists, a UPS Driver and a tool maker at Evans Refinery.

Besides his parents and step-mother, he leaves a brother, Daryl Fish and his wife Dawn of Coventry; two nephews Logan D. Fish and Jaxson L. Fish; his grandmother Ethel A. Flagg and his aunts, Judy Borland and Linda McCallum of Coventry and uncle David Fish of Reno NV.

A memorial Celebration of Life for Dereck will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd., Coventry, with a Service to follow at 7:00 pm.
