DEL BARONE, EDMUND R., (BMCA USN, ret.) 97, of Coventry, and formerly of Inverness, Florida passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Alpine Nursing Home in Coventry. He was the husband of the late Roberta E. (Keefe) Del Barone. Born in Providence, RI he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Del Barone. Edmund was the father of Diane R. Frey and her husband William of Wakefield, Antoinette E. Oszajca and her husband Matthew of Vermont, Edmund R. Del Barone Jr. and his wife Katherine of Coventry, and Dennis L. Del Barone of West Warwick. He was the brother of the late Lorenzo, Guido, Albert Del Barone, Lydia McAuliffe, Vilma Gianfrancisco, and Louise Tashian. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Edmund served his career in the US Navy and retired as a Chief Boatswain’s mate. He served his Country during World War II and the Korean War. This past May he was recognized and awarded 14 medals by Congressman James Langevin for his service during World War II. While stationed in Newport he served in many capacities, most importantly as a Tug Boat Captain and his role as piloting the Admiral’s barge.
Edmund enjoyed sailing, painting. While living in Inverness, Florida he was a member of the Elks and VFW.
Visiting hours will be Saturday morning, June 9, 2018 from 8:30 am -10:00 am, with a Service at 10 am in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., (Rte. 117) Coventry. Interment with military honors RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarrior.org) would be appreciated.
