EDWARD DESILVA Obituary

DESILVA, Edward, 85, of Berkley, MA, formerly of West Warwick, passed away at home on Saturday, March 2, 2019.  He was the beloved husband of Diane (Teal) DeSilva.

Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Richard and Maria (Branco) DeSilva.

Ed was a 1952 graduate of West Warwick High School where he played on the football team and a 1956 graduate of Boston College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and was a member of the football team. After college, he served in the United States Navy.  

Ed started in education in 1965 as the Director of West Warwick/ Coventry Head start program.  He earned his Master’s in Secondary Administration from Rhode Island College in 1973 and became Principle/Vice Principle of John F. Deering Jr. High School from 1969-1976.  After seven years in administration, he was a math teacher from 1976-1990 at John F. Deering Jr. High School before retiring in 1990.  He was an avid football enthusiast his entire life and enjoyed coaching football for many years, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Audrey Troll and her husband Michael of Hope, RI, Claudia Pearson and her husband Kenneth of Hudson, NH, Carla Thurston of Billings, Montana, Denys Russo and her husband Nicholas III of Cranston and Joel DeSilva of Lake Worth, FL; two step-children, Robert Bradbury and his wife Paula of Dighton, MA and David Bradbury and his wife Beth of Deep River, CT; two brothers, Albert DeSilva of St. Petersburg, FL and Richard DeSilva Jr. of Coventry, RI; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late David DeSilva and brother of the late Manuel and Arthur DeSilva

His Funeral will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 8:00 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in SS. John & Paul Church, Coventry.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in Pawtuxet Memorial Cemetery, Warwick.  Visiting hours Friday 4-8 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s name to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250 would be appreciated.
