EDWARD JOHN SMITH

SMITH, EDWARD JOHN, 61, of Hill Farm Rd., Coventry, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. He was the husband of Carol (Mahoney) Smith for 31 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Edward Joseph Smith and the late Dorothy R. (Boisvert) Matteson and her husband John L. Matteson.

Edward was a welder and fabricator for General Dynamics Electric Boat in Quonset and several other companies throughout the State before retiring.  Edward was a true outdoorsman, he enjoyed living in Wyoming and also traveling with his wife, especially to Arizona. He was a member of the RI Fish and Game Protective Association and the “Out to Lunch Bunch” vanning club.

Edward was father of Edward J. Smith II, and the brother of Dawn Matteson and her husband Roland Macomber, Joseph E. Smith, all of Coventry, and the late Robert E. and James T. Smith.

Visiting hours will be Saturday, December 23, 2017 from 12 pm to 2 pm with a Service at 2 pm in  the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117) Coventry. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Patient Advocate Foundation, 421 Butler Farm Rd., Hampton, VA 23666  ( www.patientadvocate.org ) will be appreciated.
