RODRIGUES, JOAQUIM F. “JACK”, 86, of Cook St., Coventry, passed away at Kent Hospital on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. He was the husband of Joan O. (Bettencourt) Rodrigues. The couple recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. Born in Travanca deTavares, Portugal, he was a son of the late Manuel and Deolinda (Ferreira) Rodrigues.
Jack was employed in landscape maintenance for the Town of Coventry Parks and Recreation Department for over 15 years before retiring in 1999. He previously was a bus driver for the Liberty Lines Motor Coach Company in New York City. Jack served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Harrison, NY where he played the mandolin in the VFW Post’s Marching Band. Jack had been a volunteer firefighter at the Tiogue Fire Station. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing the mandolin, harmonica and soccer.
He was the father of Kevin E. Rodrigues and his wife Jennifer of Palm Bay, Florida, David A. Rodrigues and his wife Donna of Chicopee, MA, Daniel P. Rodrigues of Coventry, and Paul M. Rodrigues of West Warwick. He was the grandfather of Joanna, Carlos, Michael, Gina, Erica, Kyle and Rachel; and the great-grandfather of Christina. Jack was the brother of Jose Rodrigues and Candida Mendes.
His funeral will be Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10:00 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Anthony Church, West Warwick. Interment with military honors at Greenwood Cemetery, Coventry. Visiting hours are Sunday 4- 7 pm.
