JOSEPH MICHAEL "JOE" MELLO

MELLO, JOSEPH M. “JOE”, 87, of Hill Farm Rd., Coventry, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 28, 2018. He was the husband of Pauline S. (Lecuivre) Mello for 63 years. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Antonio and Maria (Couto) Mello.

Joseph was the President of Ethide Laboratories in West Warwick. He previously was a laboratory manager at Davol for 40 years. Joseph graduated from URI in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a 1^stLieutenant  in the US Army during the Korean War. Joe enjoyed time with his family. As a hobby, Joe liked to create wood carvings of Santa Claus and ducks. He belonged to the American Society of Microbiology (AAMI) and the Society of Industrial Microbiology (SIM). 

He was the father of Michele A. Merlino and husband Joseph of Exeter, Peter J. Mello of Coventry, Jeffrey J. Mello and his wife Kathleen of Cumming, GA, Matthew A. Mello and Andrew J. Mello and his wife Mary Ann all of Coventry. He was the grandfather of Aimee Mello, Julia Mello, Meghan Scotto and Joshua Merlino; and the great-grandfather of Logan Scotto. Joseph was the brother of Theresa Michalec of West Warwick and the late Edward Mello, Mary Wojcik, Louise Mello, Alice Zajdek, Rita Levesque, Thomas Mello, Daniel Mello, Helen Plante, & John Mello. He is also survived by many nieces & nephews.

His funeral will be Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 9:00 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., (Rte. 117) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saints John & Paul Church, 341 South Main St., Coventry, RI 02816. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.  Visiting hours Wednesday 4 - 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Saints John & Paul Church or the Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice, 1184 East Main Rd., Portsmouth, RI 02871 will be appreciated.
