MARIA Da Luz (Santos) BRAZIL

BRAZIL, Maria Da Luz (Santos), 86, of Dogwood Dr., passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 7, 2019.

Born in Terceira, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jacinto and Alexadrina (Machado) Santos.

Maria moved to the US in 1966 in search of a better life and opportunities for her family.  After a short time in California, she relocated to Rhode Island where she then worked for thirty years as a housekeeper for Dr. and Mrs. Marsella and was also a compassionate caregiver to their daughter, Celeste.  Maria was a loving and beautiful woman both inside and out. Nothing made her happier than when her family was together around the table enjoying a meal.  She insisted her family, especially the little ones, went to bed each night with full bellies.  Maria would sit with her family and enjoy watching them play cards and would join in for a game of Left Center Right.  In addition to caring for her entire family, she watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every night and spent countless hours embroidering one of a kind tablecloths that she would then gift to her family, which will be treasured for generations to come.

She is survived by her children, Jose F. Brazil and his wife Julia and Anna M. Hurst and her husband Randolph, all of West Warwick; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.   She was the mother of the late Maria M. Mallette and Maria Neli Silveira and sister of the late Leonel Santos, Alvarino Santos, and Antonio Santos.

Her Funeral will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2019 10:00 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Anthony Church, West Warwick.  Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick.  Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Research Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 would be appreciated.
