MARTIN BETTENCOURT Obituary

BETTENCOURT, MARTIN N., 68, of Skunk Hill Rd., Exeter, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 29, 2018. He was the husband of Marion S. (Ring) Bettencourt for 48 years. Born in Coventry, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Dorothy E. (Cook) Bettencourt.

 

Martin was employed as an automobile mechanic for over 40 years before retiring. As a hobby, Martin rebuilt and restored salvaged motor vehicles. For many years, Martin belonged to the Southern New England Truck Pullers Association.

 

He was the father of Barbara A. Bettencourt and her companion John Rathbun of Coventry, Connie M. Bettencourt and Michael Carpentier of West Warwick, Amanda M. Bettencourt and Christopher Viens of Exeter, and Donna M. Bettencourt and Manny Ferreira of Exeter. Martin was the father of the late Sonny J. Bettencourt. Martin was the brother of Barbara Johnson and Patricia Lemoi, both of Coventry, and the late Ruth Woods, James “Jimmy” Bettencourt and Joseph “Sonny” Bettencourt. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Visiting hours will be Sunday evening, December 2, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117) Coventry. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial gathering at the American Legion Post #2, 2 Legion Way, West Warwick, RI, immediately following visiting hours.
