Raymond Laferriere, 84 of Greenville village, Smithfield, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2019.
Ray accomplished a lot in between watching Red Sox games; he served in the US Navy before starting his career as a toolmaker at B A Ballou in Providence. He was elected as a member of the West Warwick town council in 1972. He went on to become president of Guill Tool Engineering where he was employed for 12 years. After leaving there he was appointed director of parks and rec in West Warwick. He and his wife Linda owned and operated the White Trellis Motel in New Hampshire for 5 yrs. He was heavily involved with the RI Modified Pitch Softball League and co-chaired the fundraising and construction of the Amby Smith softball field. He was an unofficial spokesperson for Miller Lite and although his career in comedy never took off he always made family and friends laugh.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Linda, daughter Anne and son-in-law Eric Petrarca, of West Warwick, son Richard of West Warwick, step-son Christopher Fallis and his wife Krista of Maine, brothers Roger of West Warwick, Rene of Massachusetts, Roy and his wife Paula of West Greenwich, and was predeceased by brother Robert, brother-in-law Paul Greenis and his wife Lynn of Florida, sister-in-law Arlene Myotte and her husband Robert of Ohio, late brother-in-law David Greenis and his wife Marcia of Ohio and sister-in-law Trish Laferriere of the Dominican Republic. “Pops” as he was known to his family will also be sorely missed by his six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and dogs Goldie and Lucy.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 9:00 – 10:30 am in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Anthony Church, West Warwick. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
