ROBERT JOSEPH SASSI

SASSI, ROBERT J. “BOB”, 75, of Wakefield St., West Warwick passed peacefully with his wife of 43 years Josephine M. (Ruzzo) Sassi by his side, on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. A lifelong resident of West Warwick, he was a son of the late William and Ida (Lautieri) Sassi.

Bob was a 1962 graduate of J.F. Deering High School, where he served on the reunion committee, and was a former member of the RI Army National Guard. He was a salesman at Sears Automotive in Warwick for 28 years, often helping to set up new stores in the area, and after retirement worked for the West Warwick School Department. Bob was a former member of the West Warwick Country Club, where he spent many teenage years as a caddy, and later enjoyed several golf outings to Myrtle Beach. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the New York Yankees, the Cleveland Browns and PC Basketball, where he had been a long-time season ticket holder. Before his illness he and Jo were able to travel. Most recently, he loved his workouts at Healthtrax and the many friends he made there. Bob was a founding member of the RI Chapter for Neurofibromatosis and a Friend of the West Warwick Public Library.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his nephew Joseph Sassi and his wife Dorothy, his nieces Karen Gareau and her husband Ken, Sharon Kilday and her husband Joe, Christina Sousa and her husband Rob, his nephew Jonathan Ruzzo and seven great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Domenic Ruzzo. He was predeceased by his brother William E. Sassi and his nephew William A. Sassi.

Bob’s family would like to thank his oncologist for the past 15 years Dr. Sambandam, Dr. Stephen Miliori and his surgical team, the doctors and staff in the SIC and TIC units at RI Hospital and the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, who provided him with superior care and treated him with kindness, humor and the dignity he so richly deserved.  Also, a special thanks to Liz McGrath.

He will be sorely missed by his faithful companion, Zodi.

His Funeral will be Friday, May 18, 2018 at 8:45 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., (Rte. 117) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Drive, Cranston. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours are Thursday 4 - 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 or the North Kingstown Animal Shelter, 395 Hamilton Allentown Rd., North Kingstown, RI 02852 would be appreciated.
