RUSSELL E. REKAS

REKAS, RUSSELL E., 71, of Knotty Oak Rd., Coventry, passed away at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 11, 2019. He was the husband of Bao Yu “Sophie” Rekas for 47 years. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Edwin W. and Rita L. (Lavallee) Rekas.

Russell served his Country for over 20 years in the United States Navy. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Russell, a Petty Officer, was awarded many commendations and medals for his gallantry and valor while serving in Vietnam.  After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Russell was the proprietor of several small businesses in Coventry. Most notable was the former Pitcher’s Mound Bar & Lounge, Reko’s Arcade & Miniature Golf, and the former West Bay Meat Market. Russell enjoyed fishing, but mostly spending time with his family and especially his six grandchildren. He was a member and a past Commander of the SPRM American Legion Post.

Russell was the father of Linda Rekas Sloan, Esq. of West Greenwich, Mae Sue Riggs of North Scituate, Sue Ling Rekas of Coventry and Lee Fan Rekas Sheehan of Key West, Florida. He was the grandfather of Alexis Rekas, Tyler Riggs, Karter Riggs, Joey Rekas, Michael Rekas, and Madalyn Sheehan. Russell was the brother of Carol Vadnais of Coventry and the late Alan Rekas and Nancy Hopkins.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington St., (Rte. 117) Coventry. Interment with military honors at Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 4 – 7 pm in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., (Rte.117) Coventry.
