KOCHIEN, Sophie T. (Kania), 89, of Princeton Ave., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Sunny View Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of 66 years to George M. Kochien.
Born in Philipsburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Matachowsky) Kania.
Sophie worked at E. Rosen Candy Company, Brown & Sharpe and Cherry Semi-conductor before retiring. She enjoyed baking, sewing and football, especially the New England Patriots.
Besides her husband, she leaves two children, Kenneth G. Kochien and his wife Paula of Plymouth, NH and Patricia A. Johnson and her husband Steven of West Greenwich; a sister, Mary Comerford of Brookfield, VT and five grandchildren, James, Katherine and Anna Kochien and Kimberly and Andrew Johnson. She was a sister of the late Catherine Slahor, Walter Kania, Helen Sauers, Ann Feller, Stanley Kania, Agnes Johnston and Joseph Kania.
Visitation will be held Monday morning from 9:30 – 11:15 am in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, Coventry. Interment will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sophie’s name to Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington St., Coventry, RI 02816 would be appreciated.
