ANNAMAE (GRUNDY) ESCHER

ESCHER, ANNAMAE (GRUNDY) 95, formerly of Coventry, passed peacefully at the Apple Rehab Watch Hill, on Monday, February 1, 2021, and is now reunited with her beloved late husband of 53 years Harry C. Escher whom passed in 1999. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Annamae was a daughter of the late Bernard and Caroline (Wilson) Grundy.

Annamae, a resident of the Pawtuxet Valley for most of her life, graduated from West Warwick High School in 1943. During WWII, Annamae was an Air Raid Warden and she also was a USO Hostess. She was employed as a sales clerk at the former Jordan Marsh for over 20 years before retiring in 1989. Annamae, since the age of 8, was an active member of the Riverpoint Congregational Church in West Warwick. Over the years, Annamae held several titles and served on many committees at the Church. Annamae volunteered at the Coventry Food Bank for 12 years. She was active with the Girl Scouts of America, the Coventry Golden Agers, Coventry Senior Bowlers, past worthy advisor Pawtuxet Valley Rainbow for Girls, the Red Hat Society, and the AARP.

She was the mother of Joseph M. Escher (Karen) of CT, Roberta H. Johnson (Ralph) of NY, Jane E. Clark (Gary) of Westfield, MA, Elizabeth A. Robitaille (Robert) of Coventry, and Kathy L. Clark (Michel) of Hope Valley. Annamae is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. Annamae was the sister of Bernard Grundy, Carolyn Fontaine, and the late George Grundy, Alice Cervini, and Eleanore Shute.

Due to the Pandemic, Annamae’s Services and interment at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter will be private. Memorial donations to the Apple Rehab Watch Hill, 79 Watch Hill Rd., Westerly, RI 02891 would be appreciated.
