BETTY SALISBURY Obituary

Betty A. (Atkinson) Salisbury, 65, of Foster, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, May 10, 2023 at home, following a more than three year fight with pancreatic cancer.  She was the cherished and devoted wife of Robert A. Salisbury.

Born in Central Falls at Notre Dame Hospital, she was the daughter of the late William A. Atkinson and Rita (Dufault) Atkinson.

Betty was raised in Pawtucket and graduated from Tolman High School.  An incredibly fast and accurate typist, Betty began a long career in Radiology Transcription at Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, where she met her future husband and soulmate Bob.

Betty worked at many medical facilities during her over forty year career, among them North Scituate Radiology, Miriam Hospital, Roger Williams Hospital, Women & Infants Hospital, Nate Whipple Radiology, Kent Hospital, XRA Medical Imaging, and finally at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, until she became ill just over three years ago.  Betty treasured each and every friendship of her long career and left her mark on many hearts.

Betty’s greatest pleasure was to work in her yard.  Whether raking, picking up sticks, planting flowers, cutting brush, cleaning around rocks and walls, or pulling up weeds, this is where she was happiest, especially if her granddaughter was by her side.

Betty and Bob were true best friends, inseparable, and she was eagerly anticipating their 43rd anniversary in June.

In addition to Bob, Betty leaves three sons that she loved deeply and were always in her thoughts; William S. Salisbury and his wife Norma J. (Wendoloski) of Foster, Robert A. Salisbury and his girlfriend Meryl McGaw of Tiverton, and Brett E. Salisbury of Foster.  Betty leaves two brothers; William Atkinson and his wife Sherry of Pensacola, FL, Kenneth Atkinson and his wife Janet of Summertown, TN, and a sister, Donna Deshaies and her husband Donald of Pawtucket.  Betty leaves two grandsons; Robert Pine and his wife Adriana, and Joshua Pine and his wife Ashley.  Betty also leaves her beloved granddaughter Frances, daughter of Robert and Meryl, who was truly “her sunshine” in every way; and also her most recent joy, great-granddaughter Isabella, daughter of Robert and Adriana.

Betty leaves many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws, and an extended family of all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
