LAFLEUR, BRUCE J., 80, of Coventry, passed away at the Riverview Healthcare Community, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Marsha E. (Hartman) LaFleur for 56 years. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late James W. “Bill” LaFleur Jr. and Martha (Kenyon) LaFleur.
Bruce was raised in Coventry. He was a graduate of Coventry High School in 1962. Bruce went on to attend Bryant College. Bruce was employed as an inspector with the Department of Transportation for the State of Rhode Island for many years before retiring in 2004. He previously was the Executive Director on the Governor’s Committee for the Disabled. With this position, Bruce was responsible for creating accessibility for the disabled riders at RIPTA, an achievement he was always proud of. After retiring, Bruce and Marsha enjoyed spending time at their home in Florida, as well as camping.
Bruce was a dedicated parishioner of Saints John and James Church, where he and his wife Marsha served as Eucharistic Ministers for many years. Bruce enjoyed bowling and belonged to several leagues. He also was competitive at throwing horseshoes as a member of the Club Jogues league.
Bruce was the father of Mark K. LaFleur of Cumberland, Ryan B. LaFleur and his wife Shiela of Bethany, CT, and Danielle Champlin and her husband Jeff of Exeter. He was the grandfather of Alexander, Brieanna, Anderson, James, Libby and Liam. He also leaves his brother David W. LaFleur and his wife Anne of Westerly.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 10:00 am in Saints John and James Parish Church, 20 Washington St., West Warwick, RI 02893. Inurnment at Saint Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Saints John and James Parish would be appreciated.
