CAROL DEMARAIS Obituary

Carol June (Ekberg) Demarais, 90, of Coventry, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Respiratory and Rehabilitation Center of Rhode Island in Coventry where she resided the past twelve years. Carol was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Ronald Demarais who passed away on July 2, 2007.

 

Born in Worcester, MA on June 26, 1938, she was the loving daughter of the late Anton and Corrine (Dube) Ekberg.  

 

Carol was raised in the Norton Village Section of Worcester and graduated from Worcester High School and later earned a degree as a Registered Nurse.  Carol was employed as a Nursing Supervisor for over twenty years at the former Cranston Medical Center until retiring.

 

After retirement, Carol and Joseph settled in Springfield, New Hampshire in 1990 for a span of twelve years.  They both enjoyed the outdoors, nature, walks and traveling throughout the country.

Carol was also a gifted artist who enjoyed painting and admired works of art.

 

Carol is survived by her loving children:  Michael Demarais of Bristol, CT, Mark Demarais of West Warwick, Jeffrey Demarais of Coventry and Carolyn Kershaw of Springfield, NH; a brother: Raymond Ekberg of MA; her cherished grandchildren:  Stefanie, Brittany, Amanda, JJ, Joshua and Zachary; a great-granddaughter: Emma; and nieces and nephews.

 

Carol was the loving mother of the late Ronald Antone Demarais, David Demarais and Danny Demarais.  She was also the cherished grandmother of the late Michael Demarais and Ashley Demarais and the loving sister of the late Shirley Poland, Beverley Yacuzzi, Rita Nicestrom, Dick Ekberg and Marie.  

 

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 10:15 AM in St. John and Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry, Rhode Island.  Following Mass, Carol will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Joseph, in the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Route 3, Boscawen, New Hampshire at 2 PM.
