GUY, CAROLYN K., 76, of Oak Street, Coventry, passed peacefully at home, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 15, 2021. She was the devoted spouse of Martha A. Young for 22 years. Born in Oakland, California, she was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Warner) Guy.
Carolyn earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1967. She was a respected physical education teacher at Warwick’s Toll Gate High School from the school’s opening year in 1972 until her retirement in 1998. Carolyn coached varsity girls basketball for several years, leading the Titans to a RI State Championship title in 1976. In retirement, Carolyn enjoyed competing against "one-armed bandits” on regional and national levels, and spending time with friends and family.
Besides her spouse, Carolyn leaves her dearest friends Jean Carlson and Liette Lague, and her adored canine companions, Teddy and Lexi. She is also survived by her parents-in-law, Robert and Eileen Young; sister- and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Judge, all of Scituate, Massachusetts, as well as five nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, a Celebration of Carolyn’s Life is being planned for the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s memory can be made to the RISPCA, 186 Amaral St., Riverside, RI 02915. (www.rispca.com). Arrangements are with the Iannotti Funeral in Coventry. iannottifh.com
