CHARLES CUNHA, 87, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the Alpine Nursing Home, Coventry. He was the loving husband of the late Maria (Britto) Cunha.
Born in Hope, Rhode Island Charles was a son of the late Charles Sr. and Mary (Grace) Cunha.
Enlisting in his Junior year of High School, Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Airforce before his Honorable Discharge in 1959. Charlie was a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic for Ciba-Geigy, Davol, and he ultimately retired from Amgen in 2006. While working full time, Charles earned his Associates Degree in Business Management from Johnson & Wales College. In his retirement, Charlie enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, having a “Sunday” beer while watching football. Above all, time spent with his beloved family is what he cherished most.
Charles was the loving father of Charles Cunha III, and the late Paula A. (Cunha) Buonauito; Father-in-law of the late Teresa (Pastore) Cunha and Anthony Buonauito. Loving Grandpa of Justin Mastrofino, Michael Cunha, his wife Casey, and Anthony Buonauito; adoring great grandfather of Michael Thomas Cunha. He was the brother of Ethel Gauvin (the late Rene), and brother of the late James Cunha (and the late Agnes). He leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews. Charles was the former husband of the late Claire (Fleuette) Cunha. He was the step father of David and Sydney Britto.
His funeral will be Monday, May 4, 2026 at 8:45 AM in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington Street (ROUTE 117), Coventry. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick. Interment with Military Funeral Honors at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
