GOLOMB, CHESTER “CHET”, 89, of Coventry, passed at home unexpectedly on Friday, April 30, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Tomasik) Golomb in 2018. They were married on May 19, 1962. A lifelong resident of Coventry, Chet was a son of the late Thomas and Josephine (Pudlo) Golomb.
Chet graduated from Coventry High School in 1949. He later continued his education at CCRI earning certifications in asbestos abatement and wastewater treatment. He served in the United States Army from 1957 – 1959 earning the rank of SP4, he was honorably discharged from the Army reserves in 1963. He co-owned the former Brookside Inn seafood restaurant and bar with his brother Joe. He later worked for the Coventry School Department. Chet was a volunteer firefighter at the Anthony Fire Department. He was a dedicated parishioner at Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, where he was a violinist and served with his family in the music ministry at the Church for many years. He was an avid fisherman, loved clamming, the Boston Red Sox, and New England Patriots. He was a life member of the Anthony PNA.
He is survived by his daughters Wanda Karls and Susan Stabile, Son-in-law Dr. Louis Stabile, Grandsons Michael Karls, Daniel Stabile, and David Stabile, Granddaughter Brittany Smith and her husband Alex Smith, Great-Grandson Wyatt Chester Smith, Sister-In-Law Wanda Casey, and Brother John Golomb.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 10 am in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington St., Coventry, RI 02816. Inurnment with military honors at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church would be appreciated.
