CHRIST J. POULOS

POULOS, Christ J., 92, formerly of Coventry, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT.  He was the beloved husband of the late Mary A. “Kitty” (Todd) Poulos.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late James and Eleutheria (Papaiannou) Poulos.

Christ proudly served in the US Army as member of the 97th infantry division during World War 2.

After the war, he spent several years traveling the world as a merchant seaman. He met his wife during a port stop in New Orleans, which brought him home to Rhode Island to raise his family and work as a machinist in the jewelry industry.

Christ was a dedicated husband and father who loved his family beyond words.

He enjoyed family gatherings, sports, and playing cards.

He was proud of his Greek heritage. It was important that he raise his children in the same traditions under which he was raised by his own parents.

He is survived by his children, Chris T. Poulos of South Kingstown, Cyndi A. Silverman of Johnston, Judy A. Thornton of Little Compton and Lynda A. Theroux of Sterling, CT; a brother, Gregory Poulos of Warwick; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  He was the father of the late James M. Poulos, grandfather of the the late Jason Hoopis, great-grandfather of the late Ashton James Beaudoin and brother of the late Mary Fideli, Helen Buckner, Betty Papadopoulos, Nicholas and William Poulos.

His Funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry, with a Funeral Service at 10:00 am in the Church of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston, RI 02920.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.  Visiting hours Friday 4-7 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Christ’s name to the Church of the Annunciation would be appreciated.
