CLAIRE M. (MACCOY) BETTEZ

BETTEZ, CLAIRE M. (MacCoy), 91, of Coventry, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Fatima Hospital, Providence. Claire was the loving wife of the late Richard “Dick” Bettez. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Leon W. and Mildred M. (Burtis) MacCoy.

Claire was a licensed hairdresser and owner of Bunny’s Beauty Salon for more than 30 years. Later in life, she began her career as an Advocate for Victims & Witness Assistance at Kent County Court, from where she retired in 2004.  Claire was known in the community for her works of charity with "Christmas Is", and her yearly minstrel show that benefited the Hope Jackson Fire Dept. She loved to dance and was an avid reader and a lover of the arts.

Claire was the loving mother of Joseph Cassidy of North Smithfield, Richard Bettez Jr. of Cranston, and Reneè Mulligan of West Warwick. She was the sister of Elaine Edwards of Warwick, and the late Edward and Leon MacCoy. Claire is also survived by her 5 beloved grandchildren. 

A calling hour will be held, observing pandemic guidelines, Friday, May 15, 2020, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St (Rte. 117), Coventry, with a private Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Saint Vincent de Paul Church, 6 St. Vincent De Paul St., Coventry. Private Committal Prayers and Inurnment to follow at RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in Claire’s name to the American Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) would be appreciated. Iannottifh.com
