COWAN JR., CLYDE LEWIS, 79, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on April 15, 2021. He was born on July 23, 1941 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Clyde Cowan Sr. and Beatrice (McBride) Cowan. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Ferreira) Cowan.
Clyde proudly served his country as a Seabee in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He served for 9 years before being honorably discharged in 1969. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Clyde is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University and worked as an electrician for the Naval Underwater Systems Center for over 30 years before retiring in 1994. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Narragansett Bow Hunters Club and the Bostitch Bass Anglers.
Clyde is survived by his children Deborah (Cowan) Cabral and her husband Jose of West Warwick and Scott Cowan and his partner Crystal Bergantine of Coventry; beloved grandchildren Joseph Cabral of Warwick and Justin Cabral of West Warwick; and great-granddaughter Mackenzie Cabral of Warwick.
His funeral will be Friday, April 23, 2021 at 9:00 AM in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (RTE 117), Coventry, with a funeral service to begin at 10:00 AM. Burial with full military honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Warwick, will follow. Calling hours held Thursday, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Arrangements by Iannotti Funeral Home.
