DAGNY NINA (RUBIN) FRATES

Dagny Nina Frates (Rubin), 69, of Coventry, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Born on October 16, 1955, in Coventry, she was the cherished daughter of the late Tore and Julia Rubin.

Dagny was a devoted wife to her husband of 49 years, James Joseph Frates, and a loving mother to her two children, Jesse J. Frates and Lauren H. Chappelle, and son-in-law, David Chappelle. She was a pillar of strength and compassion within her family and community.

One of five siblings, Dagny was predeceased by her brothers Tore and Oscar Rubin and her sister Ingrid Buhre. She is survived by her sister, Sonja Rubin.

Dagny built a long and respected career at MetLife, where she worked for over 30 years. Beyond her professional life, she gave selflessly to her family and community. Whether it was her active involvement in the PTA, being the ever-present team mom at her children’s sporting events, or lending a helping hand to anyone in need, Dagny led a life of generosity, love, and unwavering support.

She held a deep love for the ocean, often spending her childhood summers on Block Island with her family and later enjoying beach days with her own children. Dagny and her husband James shared a passion for bike riding and often traveled to Maine together, making beautiful memories along the way.

Dagny will be remembered for her warm heart, kind spirit, and the immeasurable love she gave to her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched.

A private service will be held to honor Dagny’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Continuum Hospice in her memory. Arrangements are with the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT in Coventry.
