DANIEL FURTADO Obituary

FURTADO, DANIEL A., 88, of Melbourne Beach, Florida and formerly of West Warwick, passed at his daughter and son-in-law’s home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 11, 2021. He is the husband of Jo-Ann (Andrade) Furtado. Daniel and Jo-Ann were happily married for nearly 64 years. Born in Ribeira das Tainhas, Sao Miguel Island, Portugal, he is the son of the late Frank and Celia (Medeiros) Furtado. At 8 years old, Daniel’s family immigrated to the United States of America through Ellis Island on a Cargo Ship in 1941. With them they brought their love and respect for the Azores, its culture, and it's warm, lively traditions.

Daniel resided in West Warwick for 78 years before moving to Melbourne Beach, Florida.

He was employed as a Lace Finisher at the former Hope Valley Dye before retiring in 1985. Daniel and his wife established Jo-Ann’s Bakery in West Warwick and operated the bakery from 1985 to 2012.

Daniel held citizenship with the United States and Portugal. He was a member and a Past President of the Portuguese American Sports Club and a member of the Holy Ghost Society. He was a devoted Catholic, and a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He was proud of his Portuguese heritage and culture; he enjoyed Portuguese red wines and had a great appreciation for the richness of his culinary heritage.

Daniel enjoyed golfing and he even achieved a hole-in-one at a Melbourne Beach course at the age of 81. He loved to travel with his family and friends; especially to Sao Miguel, to share his beautiful island and had a green thumb for beautiful flowers and landscape.

Daniel always had great words of love and wisdom on life that will live on forever through so many people he has moved.

He is the father of Steven D. Furtado and his wife Darilyn of West Warwick, and Ann C. (Furtado) Gomes and her husband Gilbert of Apopka, Florida; and the grandfather of Jaime Furtado, Danielle Gomes, Heather (Gomes) Turner, and Adam Furtado. He is blessed with  seven great-grandchildren. Daniel is the brother of  Norberta Hodgson, and the late Dorothy Jessie and Maria Morin.

Daniel’s funeral will be Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 9 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Anthony’s Church.
