DAVID R. NEWTON

David Newton, 76, of Greene, Rhode Island passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025. 

David was born on November 1, 1949 in Providence, Rhode Island to Robert and Margaret Newton, and attended Pilgrim High School. He later worked as a film assembler and scanner operator, retiring after 40 years from a meaningful and rewarding career. He was also a Veteran of the United States Navy, and served during the Vietnam War. 

David fell in love and married Joanne Salemi in 1980. They had two children, Quinn and Viana, with whom he shared his love of cooking, laughter, and music.

David was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He had a green thumb, and loved entertaining friends and family, preparing delicious meals with fruits and vegetables from his garden. He was a lifetime member of the Roger Williams Family Association. David’s love of music was ever-present, and he passed that love down to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed reading, and spent many afternoons reading John Grisham and James Patterson novels. He was also an avid fan of New England sports, and had a giant place in his heart for his dogs. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Joanne, his son Quinn and his wife Mandy, and his daughter Viana and her husband Michael. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Anna, Dolan, Levi and Max, who were his life’s greatest joy. David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Newton, and his cousin and friend, Richard Trouve. 

David’s warmth and humor will be remembered by all those he encountered through his full and prolific life.

David’s funeral will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 9:45 in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Road (ROUTE 3), Coventry, with a Funeral Service to begin at 10:00 AM. Burial with Committal Prayers and Military Funeral Honors to follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. 

Visiting hours will be held Monday, December 29, 2025 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, those in attendance are invited to share memories of David at 6:30 PM.
