DENISE MARIE (ABONDOLO) HENNESSY

HENNESSY, DENISE M. (ABONDOLO), 73, of Coventry, passed away at the Riverview Healthcare Community, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. She was the beloved wife of retired Captain Coventry Police Department, Walter P. Hennessy for fifty-one years. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Manton) Abondolo.

Denise graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1969. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, and later a Master’s Degree in Nursing and Education from Rhode Island College. Denise was employed as a Registered Nurse at Kent Hospital for ten years, before Employment as a School Nurse Teacher, mainly in elementary schools in the Coventry School System for 20 years before retiring in 2016.

One of her most rewarding loves was being a foster parent along with her husband Walter. Together, they raised and cared for over twenty foster babies and special needs children.

Denise enjoyed knitting and crochet, hiking, and going off-roading in her Jeep.

She was the loving mother of Philip W. Hennessy and his wife Rachel of Medford, MA, Colleen M. Hennessy of North Kingstown, and the late David A. Hennessy. She was the grandmother of Anna and Ella Hennessy, and the sister of the late Robert A. Abondolo and Stephen A. Abondolo.

Denise’s family wish to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the entire 3rd floor staff at the Riverview Healthcare Community as well as a special thank you to Harmony Hospice, for the loving care given to Denise during her illness.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 11:00 am in Saints John & Paul Church, 341 South Main St., Coventry.  Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Camp Surefire for diabetic children, 290 Hope St., Bristol, RI 02809 (www.campsurefire.org) would be appreciated.
