COVENTRY- Dominico “Butler” or “Bootie” DiCarlo, 93, of Coventry, former longtime resident of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his family, at the Hope Hospice Hulitar Center in Providence. He was the devoted husband for 65 years to the love of his life, Gloria (Verrier) DiCarlo, who he married on January 12, 1957, in Notre Dame Church in Phenix.
Born on September 17, 1928, Dominico was the youngest of four children born to the late Pietro and Cristina (Pinto) DiCarlo. He grew up on Ernest Street in Coventry and received his Sacraments at Sacred Heart Church on Providence Street. He attended Coventry Public Schools and he entered the work force at a young age.
A proud and patriotic man, Dominico was a veteran of the United States Army. He spent over a year on Sea Duty, serving his country as a Laborer, departing the USA in May of 1947 and returning in July of 1948.
With a great work ethic from a young age, Dominico worked as a Welder for Electric Boat in Quonset. He excelled at his trade and was promoted to Welding Instructor where he passed on his skill and knowledge to new hires. Following his time at EB, he worked as a Projectionist at various movie theaters such as Hill Top, East Greenwich, and Kent. While working at the cinemas, he had the pleasure of having his son as a co-worker and the opportunity to eat all the movie theatre popcorn he wanted.
Dominico was a member of the Crompton Veterans Organization and he was an active coach with the West Warwick Steelers Pop Warner team.
In his spare time, Dominico enjoyed being a “Snowbird” with his wife, traveling to and from Aruba. For many years, he and his wife would spend the winter months at their home in Aruba, where he spent time at the beach and took in the warm weather on the island. He was also an avid golfer and spent many rounds playing at Coventry Pines.
