CHARPENTIER, DONALD G., 90, of Hope Valley and formerly of Coventry, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. He was the husband of Joan M. (Kirby) Charpentier, and the couple were married for 64 years. Besides his wife, he leaves behind his son, Mark Charpentier and his wife, Laurie, as well as his granddaughters, Samantha Rotella and Nicole Fallon, and three great-grandchildren. Born in West Warwick, he was the son of the late Eugene and Eglantine (DeNomme) Charpentier and was the brother of the late Doris Brouillard, Armand Charpentier, and Paul Charpentier.
Donald (nicknamed "Ducky" by his friends) was raised in West Warwick. After attending West Warwick High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was a resident of Coventry from 1963 until recently when he moved to Hope Valley to live with with his son and daughter-in-law. He was employed at Hoechst-Celanese in Coventry for many years before retiring, then worked for a short time at Goldline Controls in North Kingstown where he made many friends. Donald loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing and quahogging on Narragansett Bay. He also enjoyed building bird houses, puttering in his shed, cooking Saugies over an open fire and could play a mean game of checkers. He was a generous, loving patriarch with a kind heart and a mischievous sense of humor who was loved by all.
The Family will observe a private ceremony of Military Honors for Donald G. Charpentier on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Memorial donations in Donald's name may be made to Hope Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
