HACKENBERG (FONTES), ELEANOR I., 87, of Warwick, passed away peacefully at Kent Hospital, Warwick on Thursday, May 23, 2025 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Adelbert “Hacky” Hackenberg Sr.
Born in Providence, Eleanor was a daughter of the late Anthony Fontes and Irene (Santos) Lyons.
Eleanor will be remembered for the natural beauty she was blessed with, her endlessly giving to those who had less, her love for dancing, music, and books of all kinds. She was passionate about her volunteering efforts and her love of family and friends and strong faith in God.
Always a woman of strong faith, Eleanor was formerly a Eurcharistic Minister for SS John & Paul Church, Coventry, and was a member of the Holy Rosary Society of St. Anthony’s Church, West Warwick and Holy Rosary Society of St. Vincent De Paul Church, Coventry R.I. Eleanor’s favorite trip was her visit to Medugorje where she visited the Queen of Peace.
Eleanor was the loving mother of Cathy-Ann Ellis of Lady Lake, Florida, Bruce Madeiros, his wife Cheryl, of Richmond, and Lynn Correia, her husband Elso, of West Warwick. Loving , proud grandmother of Bryan Madeiros, Anne Madeiros, and the late Mark R. Ellis Jr. She was the sister of Elaine Perry of West Warwick and Joseph Fontes of Delray Beach, Florida.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington Street (Route 117), Coventry.
Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Anthony’s Church, 1 Sunset Ave., West Warwick. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Coventry.
