ELIZABETH GRADY Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Grady, 79, born on January 29, 1943, passed away on November 30, 2022 after a prolonged illness. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Stephen Grady for 50 years. She is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Elizabeth King, her husband Stephen Grady, her brothers Raymond and Paul King and her son Robert Grady.

She is survived by her children, Corinne Marchione and her husband Richard, Catherine Grady, and Brenda Golfin and her husband Dave. She was the doting grandmother of Matthew Young (Amy), Stephen Young (Laura), Richard “Dickie” Marchione (Victoria) Patric Noel, Joseph Walukiewicz and Adam Walukiewicz. She also had 7 great-grandchildren, a plethora of cousins, including the Skelly Family. In particular, Bill Skelly and his family-Sylvie, Sanam, Meline, Alexis, and Liam with whom she shared countless holidays and special occasions.

She also never met a stranger who was not a friend. Betty was born in Providence and resided in Rhode Island her entire life. She wore many hats during her lifetime, but her proudest accomplishments had to do with her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in their growth and supported every endeavor-no matter how unconventional or farfetched.

She ran an at-home daycare for many years, providing countless hours of homework support, snacks and the teaching of the ABC’s and 123’s. She delighted in crafting, and became a proficient quilter and seamstress. She never had the discipline to drive past a yard sale, she never met a craft fair she didn’t want to go to, and simply adored the Holiday season.

Betty spent time at the North Kingstown Senior Center and was involved in numerous organizations throughout her lifetime, most notably TOPS, which was a weight loss group that brought her much joy. Betty was the sunshine you looked for on a cloudy day and had the solution to every problem. Her love knew no bounds and her generosity was legendary- as was her Thanksgiving stuffing recipe-any of her children or grandchildren will attest to there being “altercations” over ‘the crunchy part”.

In recent years, Betty resided at the Respiratory and Rehabilitation Center of Rhode Island in Coventry where she received ongoing memory care for Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. The family would like to thank the staff, both clinical and non-clinical for their support and providing Betty with excellent care during her illness.

Services will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness to a stranger-whether it be buying a coffee for the person behind you in line, dropping off a donation at a Senior Center or a food pantry or helping a family in need.
