MARTINELLI, FERDINANDO “FRED” P., 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the Providence VA Medical Center. He was the loving and devoted husband of 62 years to the late Gilda R. (Orsini) Martinelli.
Born in Providence, Fred was a son of the late William and Dorothy (Melucci) Martinelli.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After his Honorable Discharge from the military, Fred went on to work as a Skilled Machinist until his retirement. A natural born outdoorsman, Fred was an accomplished bow hunter and marksman. He was the 17 time Rhode Island State Champion, multiple New England Champion, and 5 time Master Senior Champion. He was a member of the Rhode Island Bow Association, National Archers Association, and Fred was a longtime member of the Narragansett Bow Hunters, a club he joined in 1970.
Above all, Fred loved his family, especially his late wife, Gilda. The couple enjoyed many decades of happiness together, whether in bowling leagues or trips to Las Vegas and Florida. Fred will truly be missed.
Fred is survived by his loving son, Glenn J. Martinelli of West Greenwich. Adoring grandfather of Abby and Nick; loving great grandfather of Braxton and Colton. He was the dear brother of Anna Martinelli, her husband Frank, of Naples, FL, Ralph Martinelli, and his wife Beverly, of Johnston, RI and the late Diane Hawkins, William “Billy” Martinelli, Theresa Martinelli, and Harry Martinelli. Uncle of Kevin Hawkins, his wife Kelley, of Warwick. Fred is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members throughout the country.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 8:30 AM - 10:15 AM, with a Funeral Service to begin at 10:15 AM, in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington Street (ROUTE 117), Coventry. Burial with Military Honors to follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
