GUSTAFSON, FILOMENA (RAIMONDO) “PHYLLIS”, a woman whose boundless generosity and servant’s heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know her, passed away on April 11, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on May 16, 1947, in the beautiful town of Grazzanise, Italy, Filomena carried with her throughout her life the warmth and spirit of her roots — and gave that warmth freely to all those around her.
The daughter of the late Antonio Raimondo and Brigida (Palladino) Raimondo, Filomena grew up with a deep sense of family tradition and community that would define her entire life. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Pasco Raimondo and is lovingly survived by her brother Paulo Raimondo.
Filomena was the proud mother of two sons, Gene A. Gustafson and his wife Bonnie, and Glen P. Gustafson Sr. and his wife Brenda. She was the adoring grandmother of seven wonderful grandchildren: Karla Gustafson, Katina (Gustafson) Comery, Kassidy Gustafson, Jacob Kusiak, Ethan Kusiak, Andrea Gustafson, and Glen Gustafson Jr. She was also the proud great-grandmother of three: Keyra Gustafson, Margot Comery, and Katherine Comery. Her family was her foundation, and her love for them was immeasurable.
But Filomena’s love did not stop at her front door — it extended to her entire community and beyond. She was, quite simply, one of the most giving people you could ever hope to meet. Whether it was offering the shirt off her back, sharing what little she had, or dedicating her time to fundraising for causes close to her heart, Filomena made the world a better place every single day — and she never once asked for anything in return.
Her commitment to serving others led her to one of her proudest achievements: serving as a Councilwoman for the Town of West Warwick, Rhode Island. In that role, as in every role she took on, she showed up with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to the people she represented. Filomena also had a special place in her heart for animals of all kinds. She was a devoted supporter of Angels Caring for Animals Inc., channeling her tireless spirit into helping give vulnerable animals a second chance at life and love. Filomena Gustafson leaves behind a legacy not measured in titles or possessions, but in the countless lives she lifted, the causes she championed, and the love she poured into everything she did. The world was better for having her in it, and she will be deeply missed — but even more deeply celebrated. Rest in peace, Filomena. Your light lives on in all you touched.
Her funeral will be on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 8:45 am from the Iannotti Funeral at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd. (95, exit 18, Rte.3) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saints John & James Church. Interment at Saint Mary Cemetery in West Warwick. Visiting hours are Thursday evening, April 16, 2026 from 4 pm - 7 pm.
