FLORINDA A. (CARANCI) DOWNEY

FLORINDA A. (CARANCI) DOWNEY, 78, of Coventry, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Kent Hospital, Warwick. She was the beloved wife of nearly 25 years to James R. Downey Jr.  

Born in Providence, Florinda was the daughter of the late Anthony C. and Agnes M. Caranci.

Florinda spent her early years growing up in North Providence. Always with a tenacious work ethic and friendly outgoing personality, Florinda worked for the Rhode Island State Legislature as a Bookkeeper for over two decades. She also ran a successful cleaning company and served her friends and neighbors as a Realtor for many years.  

Always having an eye for design, Florinda enjoyed collecting antiques, decorating her home, and taking many memorable vacations with her husband, James. She also enjoyed sewing, creating crafts, and cooking, but all was overshadowed by her love of her family. She truly made others happy and will be missed by all who knew her.  

Besides her loving husband, James, Florinda is survived by her children, Robin Downey (Daniel), Andrea Pfuhl (Carlos), and James R. Downey III (Kristin). Adoring grandmother of Jalen, Patience, Victor, Charlotte, Alexis, Charlie, Elizabeth, Hannah, Sophia, Dan, and Paul. Florinda is also survived by her brother, Charles Caranci. 

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington Street (ROUTE 117), Coventry. Burial is respectfully private. Arrangements are by the Iannotti Funeral Home.
