FRANCIS S. DIMASI

DiMASI, FRANCIS S., age 74, on the evening of Monday, July 25, 2022, with his loving wife and caregiver Paula Felici by his side, Francis Sergius DiMasi passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, Florida. Fran or Frank (depending on who you talked to) was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma just one short week before his passing.

Fran was the only son and oldest child of the late Frank S. and Rita C. (Ritchie) DiMasi. He was the father of Domenic DiMasi of West Warwick, Andrea Lewis (Matthew) of North Carolina, Nina DiMasi of West Warwick, and Felicia Farrell (Joesph) of Florida.

He was the loving grandfather of Gabriele DiMasi, Jacob, Benjamin and Aria Garrett, Abraham DiMasi, Sebastian Norman, Noah DiMasi, and Maxwell Farrell. He is also survived by his sisters Virginia DiMasi, Jeanne-Marie DiMasi, and Lyn Blais (the late Donald), his nieces and nephews Allison, Jason (Katey), and Mia LaPlante and Stephen (Sara) and Joshua Blais. He was the great uncle of Zachary, Leila and Jaxson LaPlante and Samantha and Grace Blais. Fran is also survived by his aunt Dorothy “Dottie” (Ritchie) Cummings, and numerous cousins.

Fran was a 1965 graduate of West Warwick High School, with a bachelor’s degree from Wyndham College in Putney, Vermont. He received his master’s degree from Providence College and a juris doctorate from Southern New England School of Law. After receiving his bachelor’s degree Fran’s was hired to teach at Winman Junior High School in Warwick, then at Ponaganset Middle School in North Scituate. He later returned to his alma mater as the Assistant Principal of John F. Deering Middle School and West Warwick High School. When he retired to Florida, his love of teaching and helping students succeed led Fran to serve as the Assistant Principal of Flagler Palm Coast High School and he later returned to the classroom, teaching government and microeconomics. Fran was honored with the Flagler County School District’s “Power of One” award, which he earned by homeschooling a very brilliant student at their time of need. Fran was an avid reader and enjoyed history, sports, traveling and most of all family.

A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 11 AM at Saints John and Paul’s Church, 341 South Main Street Coventry, Rhode Island 02816. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Francis S.
