FREDERICK HANDRIGAN Obituary

Handrigan, Frederick A., 80, of West Warwick, RI, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on January 23, 1945, in Providence, Fred was the son of the late Irving and Rita (Davenport) Handrigan. He grew up in Pawtucket, RI, where his journey began—one marked by love, humor, and a deep commitment to family. As he often said, “just one look was all it took” to fall hopelessly in love with Elaine E. (Plouffe) Handrigan, his wife of 61 years and the love of his life.

Fred was a proud father to Mary Ouellette of Smithfield, RI; Colleen (Handrigan) Dorian of Coventry, RI (wife of the late Robert S. “Doc” Dorian); Donna (Handrigan) Goyette and her husband Raymond of Griswold, CT; and Brian Handrigan and his wife Beth of St. Louis, MO. He found immense joy in his role as grandfather to Matthew, Jessica, Jonathan, Meaghan, Craig, Scott, Elizabeth, and Emma, and great-grandfather to Addison and Violetta. Fred was the beloved brother of Patricia (Handrigan) Lacroix and the late Irving Handrigan.

He attended Pawtucket West High School and went on to build JAFCO Janitorial, which he owned and operated for most of his career. A longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, Fred’s integrity and dedication were hallmarks of both his personal and professional life.

Fred had a natural gift for making those around him feel loved. Known for his affectionate spirit, his children fondly recall how he would greet them with a smile, ask for his “flowers,” or simply say “tulips” as he puckered up for a kiss. His love for his family was unmatched, and he always said he married young and had children young so he could grow up alongside them — though he often joked that his children eventually became “older” than him.

Whether bowling with friends or enjoying time with his grandkids, Fred lived with intention and heart. He will be remembered not only for his warm hugs and constant “I love you’s,” but for the countless ways he made everyday moments meaningful.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Attleboro Elks Lodge #1014, 887 S Main St, Attleboro, MA. Burial will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice, so they may continue their mission of providing compassionate care to all, regardless of financial means.

Fred’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family — a life fully lived and deeply cherished.
