HANRAHAN, GEORGE M., 83, of Greene, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at the Alpine Nursing Home, Coventry. He was the loving husband of 63 years to Gail (Robertson) Hanrahan.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts he was a son of the late Michael and Ida (Biles) Hanrahan.
Growing up in South Boston, George graduated from South Boston High School in 1960 and continued his education at Bentley College, graduating with his degree in Accounting in 1962. Shortly after graduating, George began his career with DiPesa & Company. Much to his family's chagrin, George relocated to Greene, Rhode Island to work for Cardi Corporation, where he would spend the next two decades as Comptroller. After his retirement, George transitioned into his second career in the insurance industry, eventually joining Bentsen Combies Insurance Inc., where he ultimately retired in 2019.
Always staying active, George was a founding member of the Central Coventry Little League in 1972, and was an umpire for over 40 years officiating both Recreational and Interscholastic leagues throughout the state of Rhode Island. In addition to baseball, George also loved the sport of basketball. He was a referee for basketball leagues, both recreational and interscholastic, and selflessly volunteered as an Officiant, donating many hours to annual basketball tournaments for the Special Olympics of Rhode Island.
George was currently the Treasurer of the Rhode Island Baseball & Softball Officials (RIBSO), and was the Past Master of the St. John’s Lodge No.1, Providence. In addition to his love of officiating sports, George was a lifelong golfer and member of both Lake of Isles and Foster Country Club. Undoubtedly , George was happiest hosting cookouts and travelling. Some of his most memorable trips with family were to Ireland, Hawaii, and cruises to the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. George also loved the many family trips to Disney World. Above all, anywhere George was with his family is where he loved the most.
George was the loving father of Lisa LaRose, her husband Kerry, William Hanrahan, his wife Leesa, Edward Hanrahan, his wife Carlene, and the late James Hanrahan. He was also the adoring Papa of Ryan, Michael, Douglas, Erin, and Nathaniel. The brother of the late Louise Long, Francis Hanrahan, and Edward Hanrahan, George is survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral Services will be held in the near future at a time to be announced. Arrangements are by the Iannotti Funeral Home.
