LUCAS, GEORGE J., 87, of Coventry, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the loving husband of 60 years to Phyllis C. (Osenkoski) Lucas.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Anthony G. and Helen G. (Patrick) Lucas.
George was a Graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and then went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Providence College. After college, George was called to Active Duty during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He then went on to spend the majority of his career at Kemper Insurance, retiring after 33 years. He was a lifetime member of the Rhode Island Fish and Game Protective Association. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially time tending to his vegetable gardens, fishing, and quahogging. After his retirement, George travelled extensively with his wife, Phyllis.
George was the father of George M. Lucas, his wife Amy Doorley-Lucas, Paul A. Lucas, and his wife Kelly (Wiggins) Lucas, and James M. Lucas.
Grandfather of Kerrin Lucas, Connor Lucas, Nicholas Lucas; great grandfather of Lilliana Lucas. He was the brother of the late June Nazaka and Anthony Lucas.
George’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Saints John & Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry. Followed by burial with Military Funeral Honors at St. Joseph’s cemetery in West Greenwich, RI.
