WEST WARWICK- George P. Martin, Jr., 78, of West Warwick, passed away at his home, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his devoted family on Friday, July 16, 2021. He was the loving and dear husband for 57 years to the love of his life, Janice M. (Defosse), of West Warwick.
Born on March 18, 1943 in Providence, George was one of two sons born to the late George P. Martin, Sr. and Yvonne (Abbott) Martin.
A patriotic man, George was a proud veteran of the US Army. While in the military, George was stationed overseas in Germany. He was initially a Combat Medic, but when the need arose, he became a Cook on the military base. George served from 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1963, with his Reserve Obligation concluding in 1966.
With the desire to further his education, George utilized the GI Bill and attended Johnson and Wales University in Providence. He completed and earned his Associate’s Degree in Business.
A skilled and handy individual, George worked for 34 years as a Millwright with Greco Bros., Inc. in Providence. Following his respected career in the equipment manufacturing industry, George worked as a Sales Representative for B & F Enterprises. In his role as a Sales Rep, George travelled to various Home Depot locations throughout New England, where he gave insight and information on the Moen Faucets.
In his spare time, George had many hobbies and interests. He and his wife were members of the Natick Senior Bowling League, enjoying time bowling with their friends. George also like to work around the house, go fishing, and tend to his lawn and garden. He was an avid sports fan, with his favorite teams being the New York Giants and Boston Red Sox. George also loved to travel to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where he and Janice had many adventurous trips. Above all, George truly cherished the time spent and memories made in the presence of his treasured family.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, George is survived by his proud children: Lisa Oliveira and her significant other, Michael Wheeler, of Coventry; Michael Martin, Sr. and his wife, Rebecca, of North Chesterfield, Virginia; Steven Martin and his wife, Lori, of Coventry; and Maureen Ciotola and her husband, Sam, of West Warwick. He was the dear Papa to his 9 grandchildren: Atom Turner; Michael Martin, Jr.; Tayla Oliveira; Dylan Oliveira; Sean Martin; Sabrina Martin; Christopher Martin; Aaron Ciotola; and Jillian Ciotola. He will be greatly missed by his great-grandson: Killian Patrick Martin. He is also survived by his treasured brother: Albert Martin.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., (Rte.117) Coventry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 10 :00 am in St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence St., West Warwick. If you plan on attending the Mass of Christian Burial, please go directly to the church. Burial will be private.
