COYNE, GILBERT GIRARD “GIL” 67, of Warwick, passed away at home with his loving family by his side, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Paula F. (Jarvis) Coyne in 2023. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Doris (Peters) Coyne.
Gilbert graduated from Smithfield High School in 1976. He went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in business, before gaining employment as a loan officer in the mortgage industry for over 50 years before retiring from the Mutual of Omaha Company in 2023. Gilbert loved spending time with his family, playing golf, and he had a culinary flair in the kitchen.
He was the father of Lauren E. Coyne and her partner Nicholas Browning of Middletown, Christopher G. Coyne and his wife Vanessa of Warwick, and Meaghan L. Coyne-Ruggieri and her husband Michael of Warwick. Gilbert was the Papa of Elizabeth, Nicholas, Bowen, Jameson and soon to be expected Caiden this July. He was the brother of Elizabeth Murray of Narragansett, Patricia M. Verducci (David) of Coventry, Robert E. Coyne Jr. (Jane) of Florida, and Mary Lou Cline of Providence.
Visiting hours will be on Monday evening, May 18, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Memorial Service at 7:00 pm in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Road (Rte. 3), Coventry. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of Gil's favorite non-profits, the Coventry Little League, who will be establishing a scholarship in his honor.
