MARKMAN, HARVEY S., 87, a resident of West Greenwich since 1975, passed at RI Hospital, on Thursday, April 29, 2021. He was the husband of Catherine E. (Close) Markman for 45 years. Born in Attleboro, MA, he was a son of the late Max and Helen (Murwitz) Markman.
Harvey graduated from the Clark Preparatory School in Hanover, NH. In 1973, Harvey established Sanichem Inc., a commercial and industrial cleaning supply company in Coventry, RI.
Harvey was a devoted husband, father and Pop who loved being with his family. He enjoyed playing all sports, especially golf and baseball. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates Major League baseball team, however, an injury sidelined a potential baseball career. Harvey was a member of the Greater RI Chapter #88 Institute of Real Estate Management.
He was the father of Christine E. Brodeur and her husband Todd of Richmond, and Laura E. Dias and her husband Dave of Coventry. He was the grandfather or “Pop” to Kait Brodeur, Jocelyn Johnson, Emily Taylor (Jeff), Gabby Dias and Zack Brodeur. Harvey is also survived by a great-granddaughter Olivia Johnson. He was the brother of the late Gertrude Katz and Charles Markman.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening, May 4, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd., (Rte.3) Coventry. A private service will follow. Interment at Saint Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich will also be private.
