IRENE LILLIAN (SYLVESTER) MARTIN

MARTIN, IRENE L., (SYLVESTER) 97, formerly of Coventry, RI passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 6, 2025 at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT. She was predeceased by her husband Armand E. Martin in 1999. Born in Central Falls, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Juliette (Lambert) Sylvester. 

Irene, a resident of Coventry since 1945, moved to Connecticut in 2019. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Irene, a devout Catholic, was an active parishioner of Saints John & Paul Church for many years. She was an accomplished organist, and her youngest grandson Joey is very musically inclined. He performed many times on stage and she always attended his shows, bringing her immense pleasure. Her last outing was watching him play two weeks ago in his high school jazz band. Irene enjoyed creating afghan blankets, baking and gardening.

She was the mother of Wayne R. Martin and his wife Sara of Coventry, Susan R. Fagan and her husband William of Coventry, Donna L. Jacobs and her husband Russell of Higganum, CT, and the late Raymond R. Martin. She is also survived by five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Rene Sylvester, Russell Sylvester, and Annette Petit. 

Visitation will be on Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, from 9:00 am - 10:15 am in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd. (Rte.3) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saints John & Paul Church. Interment at Saint Mary Cemetery in West Warwick. iannottifh.com
