DOWLING, JAMES WILLIAM, 94, of Coventry, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, July 5, 2020. He was the husband of Dorothy B. (Sanzi) Dowling. The couple recently celebrated 72 years of marriage. Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late Willis and Elizabeth (Barlow) Dowling.
James enlisted in the US Navy to serve his Country in WWII. He was an Aviation Ordnanceman with the “Blue Raiders” Heavy Patrol Squadron serving in the Pacific Theater of War. After returning home, James worked for the Providence Railroad, and then went on to employment as a mail handler at the Providence Turnkey Post Office for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was an avid New England Patriots fan; and a season ticket holder for many years. He enjoyed following all sporting events.
James was the father of Marjorie A. Garcia and her husband Anthony of Coventry, RI and Ocala, Florida and the late James W. Dowling Jr. He was the father- in- law of the late Deborah A. (Kenyon) Dowling.
James was the grandfather of Kristen Capwell, Adreth Carlson, Byron Carlson and Catherine Dowling. James was the brother of Ruth Brady and Barbara Malloy, both of Providence. James was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters. He is also survived by six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
A Visiting hour will be Thursday morning, July 9, 2020 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd., (Rte.3) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saints John & Paul Church. Due to current restrictions, inurnment with military honors at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, will be private for the family.
