LAWRENCE, JAMES T., 90, of Laurel Avenue, Coventry, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Kent Hospital. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Florence L. (Matteson) Lawrence in 2021. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marianna (Medeiros) Lawrence. James was the loving father of Cynthia L. McCormick and her husband Raymond, Robin P. Cone, and Laurie A. Perry and her late husband William D. Perry III, all of Coventry. He was the adoring grandfather of Allison, Corey, Jordan, Brandon, Casey, Rosalie and Amanda; and the proud great-grandfather of Colby. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. James was the brother of the late Joseph Lawrence, Edward Lawrence, Mary Ribeiro, and Dorothy Matteson.
James was raised in West Warwick and attended West Warwick High School and graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Salve Regina College in Newport. He was employed as a Detective in the Coventry Police Department. He later went on to work for Hope Valley Dye, Leviton Manufacturing and also for Majestic Motors. James enjoyed cooking, traveling and taking bus trips, and following the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Visitation will be on Saturday morning, February 15, 2025 from 9:00 am - 10:15 am in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd.,(95/exit 18/Rte.3) Coventry, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in Saint Anthony Church, West Warwick. Interment at Maple Root Cemetery, Coventry. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) would be appreciated. iannottifh.com
