SPEARMAN, JAMES J. “Jim”, 80, of Maude Ave., Coventry, passed unexpectedly on Thursday evening, April 21, 2022. He was the husband of Audrey H. (Garvey) Spearman. They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late James T. and Agnes M. (McDermott) Spearman.
James graduated from LaSalle Academy, class of 1959. James earned the US Army rank of SP4 while stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge, he was proprietor of a Pepperidge Farms franchise for over 17 years. He later became a Realtor for the Century 21 Towne Crier Agency in Coventry where he achieved many sales goals and awards. Jim was very much involved in his community. He was presently Town Sergeant, he served on the Coventry Town Council for 18 years, and was past vice president. Jim was a coach and president of the Coventry Babe Ruth Baseball league for 47 years. He established and coached in the Central Coventry Little League, He also founded the Coventry Basketball Association. He had also been a Cub Scouts Master. Jim was a N.E. professional sports fan.
He was the father of Colleen A. Printer (Timothy), James T. Spearman, and Michael R. Spearman (Catherine) all of Coventry; and the grandfather of Timothy J. Printer (Erika),Kathryn E. Printer, Ethan M. Spearman, William R. Spearman, Ella M. Spearman and Mary E. Spearman. He was the brother of Maureen Jordan of West Windsor, NJ.
His funeral will be Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 10am from the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd. (Rte.3) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Saints John & Paul Church. Interment with military honors at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.
